Who is Amaimon?
Amaimon knows the past, present, and future. He causes visions (nice right). He provides familiar spirits and can cause other spirits to appear and assume diverse forms. He can summon protection and revive the dead. The Abramelin material says he is one of the four infernal rulers of the cardinal directions. His domain is the south. One of the eight sub-princes summoned to serve the practitioner as part of the Holy Guardian Angel rite(also nice). Mathers relates his name to a Greek root meaning “terrible violence and vehemence.”(which again is nice) According to both Mathers and Agrippa, Amaimon's equivalent in Jewish lore is the demon Mahazael(worth a Google but will be hard to find trust me ) Scot's Discoverie of Witchcraft mentions that Amaimon is known for his dangerous, putrid breath and tells a technique of protection where practitioner wears a certain ring and hold this against their faces to ward away Amaimon's harm (yeah no joke here). The same technique is advised for the infernal king Bileth. Mathers also tells about Amaimon's reputation for fiery or poisonous breath. He is in Wierus's Pseudomonarchia Daemonum as Amaymonis. Here he is a chief among evil spirits. He is mentioned in connection with both Asmodeus and Bileth, and has ties to deception and abominable practices(nice right). Although he is associated with the south in the Abramelin material, Amaimon is known as the “King of the East”(interesting huh). Amaymon is a prince of Hell, and, according to some grimoires, the only one who has power over Asmodai. A interesting thing about him is talked about in almost all copies of the Ars Goetia in English, that during the evocation of Asmodai to visible appearance, the exorcist(practitioner) must stand upright with his cap or headdress removed to show respect, because if he does not do so, then Amaymon will deceive him and doom all of his work. According to Joseph H. Peterson, editor of "The Lesser Key of Solomon" pretty sweet guy isn't he... Amaymon.
