The Gaze of Ereshkigal — The Death That Sees..,
In the descent, when Ereshkigal turns her eyes upon, whom is not a mortal, not a lesser spirit, but a goddess in full. Inanna dies instantly. No struggle. No contest. She is hung on a hook like slaughtered meat and left to rot. That is the of truth this working is built on. The Gaze is not a weapon. It is an absolute authority that, when directed, simply renders its verdict. What it looks upon does not fight back. It collapses.
This is not a curse of anger. Ereshkigal does not rage. She rules. And her judgment carries the weight of the oldest law in existence, the law of the Great Below, which predates every god above, every prayer, every protection. Nothing that lives above her threshold is exempt from her seeing.
This strips the target of their spiritual armor first.
Wards, shields, egregores, spiritual allies, accumulated protections, the Gaze does not break these things. It looks through them as if they didn’t even exist. Like smoke. Whatever a target has built around themselves to feel safe, powerful, or untouchable becomes instantly irrelevant. Ereshkigal does not acknowledge barriers raised by the living. Her domain swallows them without effort. The target is left spiritually naked, exposed, with nothing standing between them and the weight of her attention.
It turns their own truth against them.
This is maybe the most insidious part. The Gaze does not inject foreign suffering into a target. It reflects back what is already there, every buried shame, every rot they have tried to hide, every weakness they have wentered over with confidence. It forces the target into confrontation with the truest, most diminished version of themselves. They begin to know what they are, in the way the dead know…. without the comfortable lies the living tell themselves. This manifests as creeping dread, inexplicable shame spirals, sudden loss of confidence in places that previously felt untouchable, and a growing sense that they are being watched and found wanting.
It paralyzes their will and forward motion.
The dead do not move forward. They do not build, grow, or expand. Under the Gaze, the target begins to mirror that state while still living. Decisions become impossible. It all collapses. Plans that were in motion slow at critical thresholds, not through obvious interference, but as if the universe simply stops helping. Opportunities arrive and dissolve. Relationships that sustained them grow cold and distant without obvious cause. They find themselves standing still in a life that was once moving, unable to understand why nothing responds to them anymore.
It severs them from their power and influence.
Whether the target draws power from a spiritual practice, a social position, a reputation, or sheer personal force, the Gaze begins to quietly cut those threads. Their words carry less weight in rooms. People who followed them begin to drift. Other practitioners, if the target is one, find their workings losing potency. The source of whatever made them a threat begins to dry up. This is not sudden. It is the slow desiccation of everything that fed them, like a root system quietly rotting underground before the tree above even knows it is dying.
It induces progressive spiritual decomposition.
At its deepest and most sustained application, the Gaze enacts a death-by-degrees. Vitality dims. The animating force behind the target’s ambitions, relationships, and self-concept begins to decay from the inside. They remain alive and physically functional but something essential becomes absent, the quality that made them vivid, dangerous, or powerful. They become a diminished thing. A hollow version. A person others begin to overlook without quite knowing why.
At its absolute limit, spiritual annihilation.
The maim application of this working is the complete dissolution of the target’s power, presence, and spiritual identity. Not death of the body. Something the living sometimes consider worse — to become utterly irrelevant. Unseen. Stripped of every quality that gave them force in the world. To persist as something the Gaze already passed over and found unworthy of even keeping.
The Nature of this Working, What Makes It Different
Most malevolent workings operate through force — directed energy, spirits sent, bindings cast. The Gaze operates through SELF. You are not attacking the target. You are calling Ereshkigal’s attention to them and asking her to see them fully! To look at them the way she looked at Inanna. The destruction is a natural consequence of her seeing. You are not the weapon. She is. You are only the one who turns her face in their direction.
This makes it exceptionally difficult to defend against. You cannot ward against being seen. You cannot shield against truth. The target may feel something is wrong long before they can name it, and by the time they attempt countermeasures, the Gaze has already settled.
It is too late.
